Separate planning from execution
The single biggest unlock for solo builders — stop deciding what to do while you're doing it. Give the anxious part of your brain one slot a week, then starve it.
You lose focus because you decide what to do while you're doing it.
Every time you sit down, you re-open the whole list, re-rank it, second-guess it — so you never build momentum on anything. The mistake is planning and executing in the same moment.
The fix: split them
- One slot a week to decide. Mine is Sunday evening, 30 minutes.
- The rest of the week to do — with no deciding allowed.
From Monday to Friday I am not permitted to ask "what should I work on?" — that question is already answered.
When planning and doing share the same hour, the anxious part of your brain always wins. Give it a fixed slot to be heard, then starve it the rest of the week.
